A 17-year-old deaf woman identified as NT is allegedly raped by her neighbour in Kota Lama District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and is now three months pregnant. “NT is currently three months pregnant,” said Margaritha Mauweni, Head of the Follow-up Section at NTT Women and Children’s Service Unit (UPTD PPA), to detikBali on Wednesday (27 May 2026). Itha, as Margaritha is known, explained that the alleged rape case was officially reported to Polda NTT on Tuesday (19 May 2026). During the report filing, UPTD PPA NTT and LBH Surya NTT accompanied NT’s family. The UPTD PPA NTT is providing psychological support to NT, Itha added, and interpreters have been arranged for any further questioning at Polda NTT headquarters. “We have also facilitated her family to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to file a complaint and seek protection,” Itha explained. NT is currently at home. Itha said she requires specialised support due to her disability. NT and her two siblings are being cared for by their aunt. Two of them are disabled, including her sister, while her brother is not disabled, Itha clarified. Polda NTT Head of Public Relations, Chief Superintendent Henry Novika Chandra, confirmed that the police have received a report of alleged sexual violence involving a disabled woman. He stated the case is being handled by the investigators of Polda NTT’s Women and Children’s Crime Directorate (PPA) and Organised Crime Directorate (PPO). Based on initial statements from the victim’s family, Henry said the case came to light after NT identified the alleged perpetrator. He assured that the case is being handled professionally. “The family has reported the incident to Polda NTT’s Special Service Unit (SPKT) for legal processing. We emphasise that the case will be handled professionally with the victim’s protection as a priority,” Henry stated. Meanwhile, Polda NTT’s Women and Children’s Crime and Organised Crime Directorate Director, Chief Superintendent Nova Irone Surentu, confirmed several witnesses have been interviewed regarding the case. “The investigation is ongoing,” Nova added.
