“According to preliminary data, four commuter train passengers were killed,” Anne Purba, vice president of KAI’s Corporate Communication, stated in her written remarks on Monday evening.

The company expressed its utmost condolences to the victims and their families, she added.

In a separate statement, KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the four fatalities were all passengers of the CommuterLine train, which was telescoped by the locomotive of the colliding long-distance train, Argo Bromo, at the station.

Rasyidin informed that 71 injured passengers were evacuated to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday early morning, at least 6 passengers remained trapped in the train debris, with their evacuation ongoing, the president director noted.

The railway company has removed train cars unaffected by the accident to other locations to facilitate the evacuation process, he added.

Based on initial findings, the CommuterLine train was stopped on Track 1, heading east toward Cikarang, when the long-distance Argo Bromo train approached from the west on the same track and collided with it. The impact struck the last carriage, which was reserved for women passengers.

Rasyidin explained that the CommuterLine had been waiting at the station due to an earlier incident in which a train collided with an electric car on the same track, disrupting services in East Bekasi.

Nonetheless, the authority will wait for the final investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).

Passengers and victims’ families requiring information about the accident can contact KAI through official WhatsApp +62-811-2223-3121 or Call Center 121.
