Deadly Duel Kills Teenager in Cilincing, Triggered by Mutual Taunts on Social Media

Police have arrested a teenager with the initials IPS (15) in connection with a duel using sharp weapons that killed WS (16) in Cilincing, North Jakarta. The deadly duel stemmed from mutual taunting on social media.

“According to witness statements, several days prior, the victim and the perpetrator taunted each other on social media to arrange a duel,” said Cilincing Police Chief AKP Bobi Subasri on Friday (19/6/2026).

The fatal duel occurred on Jalan Kalibaru Timur II, RT 01 RW 03, Kalibaru Village, Cilincing District, North Jakarta, at around 00.15 WIB early this morning. Both the victim and the perpetrator were junior high school students residing in Kalibaru Village, Cilincing.

The perpetrator and victim agreed to a one-on-one duel at the scene on Thursday (18/6) at around 22.30 WIB. The two teenagers then attacked each other using a sickle-type sharp weapon.

Their duel took place in the middle of the road, in conditions resembling the front of a market stall with minimal lighting. Their peers witnessed the duel and some recorded videos.

Both teenagers appeared to be wearing helmets, long-sleeved jackets, and long trousers during the duel. The mutual attack was initiated and then stopped by the victim and perpetrator themselves.

As a result of the duel, victim WS sustained injuries from IPS’s slashing. The victim was rushed by his friends to Cilincing Regional General Hospital using an automatic scooter.

“As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a slash wound to the left groin. Based on examination by the duty doctor, victim WS was already deceased upon arrival at Cilincing Regional General Hospital,” he stated.

Members of the Cilincing Police Sector, North Jakarta Metro Police Resort, have arrested IPS. The suspected perpetrator is still undergoing further examination.
