A deadly clash between residents and a group of individuals occurred on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, leaving one person dead. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over breakfast at a nasi uduk stall.

Residents and the group clashed in the street, throwing stones at each other. Some individuals were seen carrying wood and bamboo, and the mob damaged fences and other property in the vicinity. Central Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Officer Iptu Erlyn confirmed the clash took place on Sunday morning (26/7). Police have since secured the location and the situation is now under control.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Roby Heri Saputra revealed that one person died after being taken to hospital following the brawl. Two other individuals were detained at the scene and are currently being questioned at the Menteng Police Station.

Police investigations indicate the trigger was a dispute near a nasi uduk stall on Jalan Matraman Dalam. According to Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Reynold Hutagalung, two motorcyclists revved their engines loudly near the stall, disturbing local residents. The situation escalated when the group returned and vandalised the nasi uduk cart, prompting residents to retaliate, which led to the fatal clash on Jalan Tambak.

A witness, Yafa, stated that the group initially fled without paying for their breakfast. After the vendor’s cart was destroyed, angry residents attacked the group’s location. Police found burnt vehicles and debris at the scene but reported no sharp weapons were discovered.
