A deadly accident occurred on the Cipularang Toll Road KM 91.200 B, in the Sukatani sub-district, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, on Thursday (26/2/2026). A truck carrying ceramics was involved in a single-vehicle accident, resulting in the death of the driver at the scene.

The incident began when a truck with license plate number D 8664 EV, driven by Iwan Gunawan, 49, was travelling in the second lane from Bandung towards Jakarta. Upon reaching the location, the vehicle suddenly lost control.

“The vehicle suddenly swerved to the right, hitting the road divider, and then swerved to the left, hitting the guardrail and ending up in a ditch,” said the Head of the Cipularang Toll Road PJR Unit, Ipda Pol Kief Gia, on Thursday (26/2).

Police strongly suspect that the accident was caused by the driver’s poor physical condition. Fatigue is believed to be the main reason for the truck’s sudden loss of control.

“The preliminary suspicion is that the driver was drowsy, causing the truck to swerve and hit the Cipularang toll road divider at Km 91.200 B,” added Ipda Kief Gia.

As a result of the severe accident, the truck driver, Iwan Gunawan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, one passenger, Ilyas Sukardi, 44, a resident of Cijerah Melong, Cimahi Selatan, Cimahi City, survived and only sustained minor injuries.

All victims, both the deceased and the injured, were immediately taken to Abdul Radjak Hospital in Purwakarta for medical treatment and autopsy purposes.

Editorial Note: The truck, which sustained severe damage to the front, has been successfully evacuated by officers to the tow truck pool at the Jatiluhur Toll Gate, Purwakarta. Traffic flow at the location is reported to have returned to normal after the evacuation.

Police have appealed to toll road users, especially drivers of large vehicles, to always ensure they are in good physical condition and to rest at rest areas if they feel tired in order to avoid similar accidents. (I-2)
