Dead Dutchman flown home

AMBON, Maluku: Police yesterday arranged for the return of the body of Johannes Ditzal, a 64-year-old Dutch tourist who died while on a mountaineering trip last Saturday, to his country.

Ambon Police Chief Lt. Col. Suroto said the Dutch embassy in Jakarta had agreed to pay the cost of flying the body of Johannes Ditzal to the Netherlands.

Ditzal, from The Hague, died on Saturday during an expedition to Mt. Leasusu. Accompanied by five local guides, he barely covered 400 meters when he requested a rest. A little while later, he passed away, the police said.

Police said the five guides had been questioned over his death but none were arrested. Police have sent an autopsy report to the crime laboratory in Ujungpandang to determine the cause of Ditzal's death. (emb)
