A bottlenose dolphin washed ashore on Yehsumbul Beach, Mendoyo District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. The marine mammal was found dead this morning.

“Witnesses saw one dolphin stranded on the beach and it was already dead,” said Mendoyo Police Chief, Kompol I Wayan Sartika, when confirmed by detikBali, Sunday (17/5/2026).

The dolphin’s carcass was first discovered by a daily worker named Muhamad Sidik (41) at around 10:00 am. At that time, Sidik was walking along the beach. He stopped when he saw the marine mammal being washed ashore.

The discovery of the stranded dolphin was then reported to the police. Around 10:45 am, officers arrived at the location and secured the crime scene.

The officers also coordinated with relevant parties to conduct an external examination. Based on the identification results, the marine mammal was identified as an Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin.

“The measurements showed that the dolphin had a length of 215 centimetres (cm) with a stomach diameter of 120 cm. During the examination, no wounds or signs of violence were found on the outside of the dolphin’s body,” explained Sartika.

According to Sartika, the dolphin’s carcass was then buried to prevent it from causing an unpleasant odour or potential spread of disease. “Around 12:30 pm, a joint team buried the dolphin’s carcass near the location where it was found,” he concluded.
