DBS Foundation Initiative Empowers Indonesian Women and 200,000 Young People
Jakarta – DBS Foundation’s Head, Karen Ngui, has affirmed DBS’s commitment to being the “Best Bank for a Better World” by providing financing solutions that drive sustainable growth in the financial and business sectors whilst delivering positive environmental and social impact.
Ngui stated that vulnerable communities represent a key focus of the community empowerment efforts championed by DBS Foundation. In Indonesia, women’s empowerment is particularly critical given women’s central role as the foundation of family and community life, necessitating support to strengthen their economic capacity.
In collaboration with The Asia Foundation, DBS Foundation has developed a programme to empower approximately 900,000 vulnerable women. The initiative encompasses business and financial planning through to money management, with the aim of boosting economic prosperity whilst creating positive spillover effects for the next generation.
In Indonesia, DBS Foundation supports approximately 200,000 young people in financial literacy and encourages them to develop businesses within their communities. The programme is designed as a long-term initiative, with impacts expected to extend to future generations.
DBS Foundation’s women and youth empowerment initiatives, which commenced last year, aim to drive improvements in business performance, economic conditions, and financial literacy capabilities to enhance community livelihoods.
