The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has endorsed the new DBL Super Teacher programme, launched by DBL Indonesia for the 2026-2027 competition season, stating it will improve the quality of sports teachers. Head of the National Achievement Centre (Puspresnas), Maria Veronica Irene Herdjiono, said the programme complements the ministry’s efforts by focusing on the competence of teachers who act as mentors and coaches for student athletes. “So they (the teachers) are guided by professionals, not just trained in theory but also in practice,” Maria said after the launch event in Jakarta on Tuesday. She explained that enhancing teacher capacity would have a sustainable impact, as the knowledge gained can be directly applied in their respective schools, thereby improving the overall quality of physical education and basketball coaching. Maria added that the sports curriculum already provides space for developing various sports, including basketball, and collaborative programmes like this open wider opportunities for students to develop their interests and talents. Beyond supporting teacher quality, the ministry is also encouraging schools to participate in DBL competitions. The DBL Super Teacher programme is a new innovation for the 2026-2027 season, as the league’s attention had previously not focused on teachers. The programme offers special training for accompanying teachers, with selected participants also given the opportunity to gain learning experience abroad, complementing similar opportunities already available for players and coaches.
