Tehran, Iran — Iran’s oil facilities were attacked for the first time since the war between the United States, Israel and Iran broke out, with Israeli airstrikes triggering major blazes at several oil sites in Tehran and in Alborz Province.

According to Al Jazeera, thick smoke was seen rising into the Tehran sky following the airstrikes. The strikes hit four oil storage facilities and a central oil production transfer facility.

The joint strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel entered their ninth day on Sunday (8 March 2026). The assaults were reported to have killed at least 1,300 people in Iran and around 300 in Lebanon. In Israel, about a dozen people were reported killed, according to local officials.

Fars News Agency reported that the Saturday attack triggered a large fire after hitting four oil storage facilities and the oil transfer centre in Tehran and the Alborz Province. Iran’s state media described the attack as ‘an assault by the United States and the Zionist regime’.

Targeted facilities included the Aghdasieh oil depot in northeast Tehran, the Tehran refinery in the southern part of the city, the Shahran oil depot in western Tehran, and an oil depot in Karaj.

Several witnesses said oil from the Shahran depot leaked onto roads around the site.

At least four tanker truck drivers were reported killed in attacks in Tehran and Alborz, according to Fars. Nevertheless, authorities said there was no fuel distribution shortage.
