Repair work on the collapsed road in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, is being carried out around the clock to expedite the restoration of traffic flow at the site. The main road is expected to be fully operational for vehicles in the near future. Detikcom monitored works at the collapse site on Sunday (31/5/2026). The Water Resources Department (SDA) has installed culverts at the collapse location. Water flow has reduced following the installation of the box culverts. Excavated soil piles are visible on the left side of the road. Several workers are digging drainage channels on the left side before the road collapsed. An excavator remains on site. Traffic flow has not been narrowed. All lanes towards Depok remain open despite barriers on the right side. Steel plates are still placed over the collapsed section, with drivers slowing down when passing. By Sunday, repair progress had reached 70%, with road concreting to follow. ‘Installation of the box culverts is 90% complete, with only one remaining. The overall repair is about 70% done due to upcoming concreting and road cleaning,’ said Iwan K Santoso, Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs of South Jakarta Administrative City, to reporters at the site on Sunday (31/5). He said that on the third day of work, four large PLN cables posed obstacles. Workers are excavating at the cable locations. ‘The tenth culvert is still hindered by four large and one small PLN cable. Excavation has been carried out today and will be connected so the cables are placed above the culverts to be installed,’ he added. He said concreting would take place on Sunday on the road currently covered by steel plates. He urged residents to be patient due to potential traffic congestion. ‘Hopefully concreting will occur tonight, taking eight hours. We hope the public will be patient as traffic congestion is inevitable,’ he said. ‘Fortunately, tomorrow is also a holiday, so we hope everything will be completed by Tuesday, leaving only site cleaning,’ he added. Iwan said work was also delayed due to last night’s rain. ‘Last night’s rain caused strong water flow from the UI Lake, further hampering repair work around the collapsed road,’ he explained. Iwan explained there would be a power outage around the collapse site. He said it would last no more than two hours to handle the PLN cables. ‘For the affected area, it will include Depok and slightly Lenteng Agung. PLN will issue specific outage notices,’ he said. ‘If completed today during excavation and connection, PLN is usually prompt and swift; hopefully the connection will take no more than two hours, according to PLN,’ he added. Repair Costs Rp 380 Million. The total repair budget is Rp 380 million, covering the entire repair process. ‘This budget is around Rp 380 million for the entire project over two weeks,’ said Santo, Head of South Jakarta Water Resources Department, at the repair site on Saturday (30/5). Santo explained the work is divided into two phases. The first phase is repairing the main road, targeted for completion in three days to restore normal traffic, while the second phase focuses on the roadside finishing. ‘We’re pushing to complete the main road within three days so traffic flows smoothly and congestion ends. Normal vehicle passage should resume by Monday,’ he said. For the repairs, ten box culverts are targeted to channel water from the UI connecting channel to the Ciliwung River. This material was chosen to expedite main road works. ‘We prioritise completing the 10-metre section tonight. The road surface is 8.5 metres wide, totalling 10 metres with both sides. We’re using rigid concrete, which will be ready for use in eight hours,’ Santo explained. For the roadside areas, Santo said workers will manually install stone revetments. Stone was chosen due to the high number of underground cables and poles. Santo acknowledged traffic congestion in Lenteng Agung is a major challenge, limiting worker and heavy equipment mobility. ‘The first issue is traffic congestion. The flow is too dense. If the road could be fully closed, we’d have more space and could work faster,’ he added. Despite this, he assured work continues at full pace within available space and time. Santo apologised to the public, especially road users, for the congestion caused by repair activities. ‘I apologise to road users, particularly drivers and nearby residents. We’re sorry for the traffic congestion caused by crossing construction and repair works,’ he said.
