Davenport 'devastated' by Bali blasts
FILDERSTADT, Germany: Lindsay Davenport, who won the Wismilak International in Bali only two weeks ago, said on Wednesday she felt "devastated" by last Saturday's bombings in Kuta and Jimbaran.
The world number two began the defense of her title at the Porsche Grand Prix here with a performance belying her feelings about the terrorism which struck so close to where she had been.
"One of the explosions happened within 200 feet of where I was staying. I walked by that restaurant every day. It is very difficult to take in," said the American, who stayed at the Four Seasons in Jimbaran, while other players were at the tournament site at Nusa Dua.
"I am devastated by what has happened ..." She added that she sent an e-mail to her tournament driver, who she also thanked in her victory speech at the tournament.
Davenport beat Francesca Schiavone of Italy -- the same woman she defeated in Bali on Sept. 18 -- 6-2, 6-2 on Wednesday. -- AFP
