Daughter with suspected mental illness kills mother in Jambi
Tragic incident shakes residents of RT 3, Sijenjang Village, East Jambi District, Jambi City. A middle-aged woman identified as UK (52) was found brutally murdered after allegedly being assaulted by her own daughter, FR (21), on Thursday (28/5) afternoon.
Jambi City Police Chief, Commissioner Boy Sutan Binanga Siregar, confirmed the incident, stating the case is being handled intensively by the East Jambi Police Station (Polsek) personnel.
“Indeed, the incident occurred. The case is currently being handled by East Jambi Police Station, Jambi City Police Department,” Boy told Media Indonesia on Friday (29/5).
East Jambi Police Station Chief, Assistant Commissioner Deddy Gaos, explained that the incident began with a quarrel inside the victim’s home. Based on the crime scene investigation, the victim died from severe head injuries.
“The victim bled to death after being struck on the head by the suspect using a water pump iron rod,” Deddy told reporters.
Investigators are still probing the motive behind the heinous act. However, police face difficulties in questioning the suspect due to abnormal behaviour and difficulty in communication.
FR is strongly suspected of having a mental health disorder. To confirm her mental state, police have taken the suspect to Jambi Psychiatric Hospital (RSJ) for medical observation.
“The suspect is suspected to be abnormal. She has been taken to Jambi Psychiatric Hospital for further psychiatric evaluation,” Deddy added.
Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital, Jambi Police Headquarters, for a post-mortem to complete the investigation file. The case has drawn public attention in Jambi, particularly regarding legal handling of suspects with suspected mental illness. (SL/I-1)
