Daughter of Police Officer Named Suspect in Racist Content Case

The Central Java Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate has named a woman with the initials L as a suspect in a case involving social media posts that encouraged Instagram followers to post racist comments. Beyond the viral nature of the posts, L has drawn significant scrutiny due to being the daughter of a middle-ranking police officer.

“Regarding L and the racist case, we have officially named her a suspect. We will conduct further interrogation as a suspect in the near future,” stated the Director of Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol Himawan Sutra Saragih, during an interview at the Central Java Regional Police Headquarters in Semarang on Monday (1/6/2026).

He added that the authorities possess sufficient evidence to elevate her status. “From the results of our in-depth investigation and the ongoing inquiry, there is strong enough evidence to upgrade her status from a witness to a suspect,” he said.

According to Himawan, L will be prosecuted under the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law. He further noted that during the investigation, his team will determine if there are any other suspected criminal violations that could lead to charges beyond the ITE Law.

Suspect L went viral after posting a contest on her personal Instagram account, @__redblood__, in mid-May 2026, offering a prize of Rp100,000 to followers who could post the most racist comment. The contest attracted numerous participants, including one account that posted an insult directed at the Papuan people. L reportedly replied to that specific comment, writing, “Sarcasm, bro. DM me. I’ll transfer [the money].”
