Data from Ministry of ATR/BPN: Land in Tanah Abang Belongs to KAI, Not Hercules
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The government has affirmed the status of land as state assets in three locations in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta. This was stated by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait after a meeting with Danantara Indonesia, the SOE Ministry, the Ministry of ATR/BPN, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) at Wisma Danantara, South Jakarta, on Friday (17/4/2026). “When I went there, we had already consulted, we are certain it is state land, but there are other parties who are not convinced it is state land,” said Maruarar. The land in the Bongkaran area of Tanah Abang has been managed by the General Chairman of GRIB Jaya, Rosario de Marshall alias Hercules. A while ago, Maruarar along with KAI executives inspected the vacant land that will be used for vertical housing. However, Hercules, who feels he owns the land, debated with Maruarar. Nevertheless, he is willing to vacate the land if there is proof that the state asset belongs to PT KAI. In the meeting at Danantara, Maruarar became even more convinced that the three locations are state assets after hearing explanations from the Ministry of ATR/BPN. He conveyed that the Ministry of ATR/BPN showed data that further solidifies the government’s efforts to utilise the assets to build public housing. “Consultation in Indonesia to check whether the land rights are state assets or not, of course, is with ATR BPN. We will use it for the interests of the state and the people,” said Maruarar. The Deputy Director of PT KAI, Dody Budiawan, explained that the land in Tanah Abang claimed by other parties consists of three locations. He mentioned that the land in Pasar Tasik, covering one hectare, and two other adjacent lands in the Tanah Abang area, are indeed owned by KAI. “The two adjacent lands we call Tanah Abang Bongkaran, according to their certificates HPL number 17 and 19 with a total of around three hectares,” said Dody.
