Data Centre Power Demand Increases
The growth of digital infrastructure is driving an increased need for power systems capable of keeping data centre operations running, especially when the main electricity supply is disrupted. Muhammad Adam Ghafarry, Department Head of Marketing Communication at PT Traktor Nusantara, stated that power supply continuity is a critical factor in maintaining service availability levels, or uptime, for data centres. “The development of digital infrastructure is driving the need for increasingly reliable power systems to support data centre operations, particularly in maintaining operational continuity and maximising uptime,” Adam said on Wednesday (5/8). According to him, this need relates not only to power capacity but also to the operator’s ability to monitor engine conditions and detect potential disruptions early. One technology used for this purpose is an electronic engine management system. This technology includes engine protection, fault diagnosis, and remote monitoring to help operators oversee equipment conditions. Adam said monitoring and diagnostic features are necessary to improve operational visibility and accelerate response when problems occur with backup power systems. In addition to generating sets, data centres require generators that can be adapted to site conditions and operational characteristics. Generators are available in open configurations or equipped with soundproofing to reduce noise levels. However, the reliability of the power system is not solely determined by the equipment used. Regular maintenance, spare parts availability, technician readiness, and the speed of fault handling also affect the operational continuity of data centres. PT Traktor Nusantara introduced the Perkins Engine 5000 Series and Perkins-powered generator sets at the Data Center Tech Indonesia Conference & Expo 2026, held from 5-6 August 2026 at JICC Senayan, Jakarta. The Perkins Engine 5000 Series is an engine developed for power generation applications requiring high performance and reliability, while the displayed generator sets were available in both open and silent type configurations. As the use of cloud computing services, digital transactions, artificial intelligence, and internet-based services continues to rise, the demand for data centres and their backup power systems is expected to keep growing.
