Data Breach Risks Loom: Effective Ways to Address Them
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not just about making jobs more efficient. However, there is also a lurking danger regarding the use of that technology. Director General of Digital Ecosystem Edwin Hidayat Abdullah explained that one of the biggest risks is data breaches. This risk can arise if Indonesia does not inclusively utilise AI. “So if Indonesia does not inclusively utilise AI, it creates danger, but if it is not accompanied by good cybersecurity, it is also dangerous,” he clarified at the Tech & Telco Forum 2026 on Wednesday (6/5/2026). In the same opportunity, he revealed that the government is trying several things to develop that technology. For example, creating an innovation centre and regulations that favour those who want to invest. In addition, Edwin also touched on talent. Because competence is needed from the people involved. Komdigi itself has several programmes to encourage that. Namely, the AI Talent Factory and Digital Spark Innovation Hub. “We also have what is called the Digital Spark Innovation Hub, which is for a centre of innovation. We will establish it in 20 cities in Indonesia out of 514 regencies/cities. After that, it can be commercialised with data,” he explained. Edwin quoted a report stating that AI could contribute US$366 billion to the economy per year. However, with the caveat that all things, including infrastructure and talent, are ready. “If not, it would just be a prediction,” Edwin stated.
