Dasco's Courage in Taking Political Decisions Proves DPR Is Present for the People
Muhammad Burhanuddin, Chairman of DPP GAN and National Coordinator of the National Forum 08 (FORNAS 08), has expressed appreciation for the actions of Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad in handling the demonstration at the Parliament Complex in Senayan.
According to him, Dasco’s decision to go down directly to meet the crowd and provide concrete answers reflects the responsibility of a state official towards the people’s aspirations.
“We appreciate Mr Dasco’s approach. Amid a heated situation, he chose to be present, engage in dialogue, and provide a swift solution. This is far more productive than allowing tensions to drag on,” he said, as quoted on Friday (28/8).
He assessed that Dasco’s courage in opening space for dialogue and even stating his readiness to resign if the Asset Forfeiture Bill is not passed by December 2026 is a bold political move that sides with the people.
“This proves that the DPR is not allergic to criticism. On the contrary, with good communication, unrest can be calmed and public trust can be maintained,” he stressed.
GAN and FORNAS 08 hope that the leadership style demonstrated by Dasco can become a new standard for other state officials.
“Leaders must be present, listen, and solve problems. That is productive democracy,” he concluded.
