Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has urged the public to remain optimistic in facing the various dynamics currently unfolding, including the disasters that have struck a number of areas in East Nusa Tenggara.

According to Dasco, the spirit of independence on the occasion of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia should serve as an impetus for the public to keep moving forward, even amid the disaster situation.

“Our hope for this Independence Day anniversary is that we remain optimistic together in facing all kinds of existing dynamics and that we continue to move forward towards a Golden Indonesia,” said Dasco at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

On that occasion, Dasco also conveyed his condolences to the communities affected by the disasters in NTT.

He said the government and the DPR have been present at the disaster locations and have held coordination meetings to determine the necessary handling measures.

“First of all, I would like to express my sorrow and condolences regarding the disaster affecting our brothers and sisters in NTT,” he said.

Dasco said the government and the DPR have gone directly to the locations to ensure that disaster management is carried out with the appropriate measures.

“The government and the DPR have arrived at the location and have held coordination meetings to take the steps deemed necessary,” he explained.

He expressed hope that the spirit of independence can continue to be upheld by the entire public, including in facing the various challenges currently confronting the nation.
