Dasco Urges Danantara to Execute Buyback of Underperforming Himbara Shares
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad is pushing for a strategic move involving the buyback of shares belonging to banks within the State-Owned Bank Association (Himbara). This step follows intensive coordination with various authorities and state financial institutions.
Dasco revealed that he has been in communication with Danantara, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, PT Taspen, and the boards of directors of Himbara banks. According to him, the buyback plan is the result of a deep evaluation of capital market dynamics and the current banking situation.
“Perhaps there are shares that are currently good and could subsequently be bought back,” Dasco stated at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Despite fluctuations in the stock market, Dasco emphasised that the national banking condition is actually showing very positive development. This evaluation aims to maintain the stability of state-owned enterprise values in the eyes of investors.
Echoing this sentiment, the President Director of BNI, Putrama Wahju Setyawan, provided an optimistic outlook regarding the internal condition of state-owned banks. He asserted that, fundamentally, the performance of Himbara is currently at its best.
Putrama highlighted several significant growth indicators, stating, “The fundamental performance of Himbara is very good, so there is no need for concern or doubt regarding the fundamental conditions on the exchange.”
During the same occasion, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi provided further reinforcement, stating that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remain robust, particularly supported by a banking sector that is resilient to global challenges. Prasetyo urged all market players and stakeholders within Himbara banks to continue strengthening coordination and discussion. This synergy is considered crucial to overcoming various economic issues and ensuring sustainable growth in line with government expectations.
A share buyback plan is a corporate instrument typically utilised when share prices are deemed undervalued or do not reflect the true fundamental value of the company, in order to send a positive signal to the market.
