JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has revealed that workers will be involved in the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs (PHK) and Worker Welfare established by the government.

“There, because there are representatives from all our colleagues, we can quickly obtain the information,” said Dasco while receiving an audience with a mass of workers holding a May Day 2026 action in front of the DPR RI Building, Friday (1/5/2026).

He explained that the task force was formed by the government to break the chain of bureaucracy that has so far been considered lengthy in resolving labour issues.

With direct involvement of workers, he continued, reports received are expected to be followed up more quickly because information is obtained directly from the field.

“Issues of wages, the outsourcing system, then if there are plans for layoffs and so on, can be brought there to break the long chain,” said Dasco.

Even if a company’s condition is no longer feasible, the government can take further steps.

“Earlier, the President also stated that if companies are indeed in difficulty, they will be assisted or even if they are no longer able, they will be taken over so that workers still have a place to work,” he concluded.

Prabowo conveyed this information during his speech at the commemoration of International Labour Day at Monas, Jakarta, Friday (1/5/2026).

“Brothers and sisters all. I have issued Presidential Decree Number 10 of 2026 on the establishment of the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs and Worker Welfare,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo urged workers not to feel anxious because the government will defend workers’ interests. He stated that the state will take over the burden of companies that declare they cannot continue, leading to layoffs.

“Don’t worry, we will defend the interests of workers. Those threatened with layoffs, we will defend and protect you all,” Prabowo said.

The General Chairman of the Gerindra Party emphasised that Indonesia is a strong country. While many countries are panicking due to the impact of the war in West Asia (Middle East), Indonesia is instead experiencing a food surplus.
