The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that Commission II of the DPR, along with all political party factions within it, is ready to discuss amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. According to Dasco, this readiness was communicated by the leadership of Commission II during a recent leadership meeting of the DPR RI.

Dasco noted that the revision process for the Election Law will commence with the preparation of academic papers, followed by the drafting of proposed article amendments. “I believe the DPR RI’s readiness regarding the revision of the Election Law is beyond doubt,” said Dasco following the leadership meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/6/2026).

In the near future, he mentioned that Commission II will organise public participation sessions to gather more input and enrich the elements requiring revision. Nevertheless, he has instructed Commission II to proceed with caution when drafting the amendments to prevent the law from being challenged again in the Constitutional Court (MK).

He also emphasised that the Bill (RUU) regarding the Amendment to the Election Law will be an initiative of the DPR RI. “Since the law-making body consists of the DPR and the government, as in previous instances, we will make this revision a DPR initiative,” Dasco concluded.
