DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad commented on the revision of Law No. 2 of 2002 on the Indonesian National Police regarding changes to the retirement age for officers. He stated that the retirement age for police officers is being increased to align with other law enforcement agencies, including TNI and prosecutors. “Yes, when considering equality among law enforcement agencies and the military, the Prosecutor’s Office retires at 61 for regular positions and 62 for functional roles. The TNI’s retirement age has also been extended,” Dasco told reporters at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Dasco explained that the increase aims to eliminate disparities among law enforcement agencies. He also dismissed concerns that the retirement age extension was intended to prolong the police chief’s term. “The revision should have been done earlier, but due to various circumstances, it is only being implemented now. If there are specific issues, I don’t think so,” he said. It is known that the DPR and the government have begun discussing the Third Amendment to Law No. 2 of 2002 on the Indonesian National Police (Police Bill). During a meeting in Senayan on Monday (25 May), the DPR’s Commission III and the Ministry of Law confirmed that adjusting the retirement age is part of the substantive revisions. DPR Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the regulation on police retirement age is being adjusted more clearly and measurably according to organizational needs. Meanwhile, the government recommended that the DPR discuss and regulate the police retirement age adjustment as part of professional human resource development aligned with organizational and national interests. After the meeting, Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas said the retirement age change is included in the substantive revisions to accommodate justice. “This is about justice. Regarding retirement age, civil servants currently retire at 60, with some at 58. For functional civil servants, it’s up to 65. The TNI law has been amended, and the Prosecutor’s Office law has also been changed to 60 years,” he said.
