Dasco says DPR to visit non-parliamentary parties regarding Election Bill
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has said the DPR RI will visit a number of non-parliamentary political parties in connection with the drafting of the Election Bill (RUU Pemilu). According to him, the agenda will take the form of specific working visits. The visits are planned for next week after the DPR RI enters its recess period. “During recess, we consider it a specific working visit. That is when we will go,” Dasco said when asked about the plan for a safari to non-parliamentary parties at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday. However, he did not elaborate further on the visits or which parties would be visited. Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI Aria Bima said that his side would absorb aspirations from various non-parliamentary parties for the drafting of the bill on amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. According to him, the aspiration gathering will be led by Dasco by visiting these various parties. “We must listen to crucial issues, namely the parliamentary threshold, presidential threshold, as well as electoral districts and the seat limit per electoral district,” Aria said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (24/6). Besides seeking solutions regarding the parliamentary threshold and presidential threshold, according to him, Commission II of the DPR RI will also resolve issues surrounding elections through the bill, such as Constitutional Court rulings, the neutrality of officials, and strengthening oversight.
