Dasco says DPR to begin recess tour to gather input on Election Bill
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has stated that the DPR will begin visiting a number of non-parliamentary political parties and election monitoring organisations to gather input on the revision of the Election Law during the recess period. The recess for DPR members commenced on Wednesday, 22 July, and runs until 13 August 2026. According to Dasco, Commission II of the DPR will receive the input regarding the Election Bill. “So that it can be compiled to make the law more perfect,” Dasco said at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Tuesday. He stated that the consultation is being conducted to minimise the number of lawsuits or judicial reviews against the Election Law once it is passed. “Because a final and binding decision gets judicially reviewed, then becomes final and binding again, while there are differences and similarities,” he said. Previously, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the recess period should be used by DPR members to meet, listen to, and absorb the people’s aspirations, explain the constitutional duties carried out by the DPR, and unite the people in a spirit of mutual cooperation to build Indonesia’s progress. “I announce to all the people of Indonesia, from 22 July to 13 August 2026, the DPR enters the Recess Period of Session V for the 2025-2026 Session Year,” Puan said during the plenary meeting closing the session.
