Dasco says DPR leadership will receive protesting students tomorrow

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the DPR leadership plans to meet with students conducting protests on Friday (19/6).

“There is indeed a plan for them to be received by the DPR leadership tomorrow,” he said when met at the DPR Building, Jakarta, on Thursday.

However, Dasco did not provide further details regarding the plan. “That is the plan for tomorrow,” he said briefly.

It is known that students from various universities have been conducting protests over the past week. Student alliances have been expressing their views regarding recent economic conditions.

Previously, Vice President Gibran Rakabulating Raka met with representatives of student groups protesting at several locations in Jakarta, receiving them at the Vice Presidential Palace on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan on Monday (15/6) afternoon.

A total of 15 representatives moved from the protest sites to the Vice Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta at approximately 5:00 PM WIB.

The Acting Secretary to the Vice President, Al Muktabar, stated that the meeting between Vice President Gibran and the students discussed issues ranging from regional to national levels and would serve as a consideration for future policy.

“Naturally, within the limits of authority according to the prevailing laws and regulations. In principle, because we are a democracy-based nation with a legal foundation, he highly respects such matters,” Al said during a press conference.
