Dasco says DPR leadership will receive protesting students tomorrow

Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the DPR leadership plans to receive students staging a protest on Friday (19/6). “Tomorrow there is indeed a plan to be received by the DPR leadership,” he said when met at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Thursday. However, Dasco did not elaborate further on the plan. “Tomorrow there is a plan like that,” he said briefly. It is known that students from various campuses have been holding protests over the past week. The student alliance has been voicing their opinions on the recent economic conditions. Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka met with representatives of student groups who were holding protests at several points in Jakarta and received them at the Vice Presidential Palace on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan on Monday (15/6) afternoon. A total of 15 representatives moved from the protest site to the Vice Presidential Palace in Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, around 5 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. Acting Secretary to the Vice President, Al Muktabar, conveyed that Vice President Gibran’s meeting with the students discussed issues ranging from regional to national levels and would be taken into consideration. “Of course, within the limits of authority according to laws and regulations. In principle, because we are a country based on democracy and the rule of law, he greatly appreciates such matters,” said Al during a press briefing.
