Dasco: Rupiah to Strengthen Next Week, Advises Selling Dollar Holdings
House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has claimed to have received information that the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar will strengthen further next week. He has urged members of the public holding dollars not to hesitate to exchange them back into rupiah.
“Perhaps for those of you who are currently holding dollars because you hope for a gain, it would be best to sell your dollars. Because if the rupiah strengthens next week, it will be a pity if you keep holding onto dollars. That is my suggestion,” Dasco told journalists at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
Furthermore, Dasco stated that the government is currently preparing a special strategy to cause the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar to strengthen. However, he did not elaborate in detail on what strategies the government is preparing.
“I have also received information from government circles that this week and going forward, there are special strategies to be implemented by the government, which from what I have heard, and I am confident, will cause the rupiah exchange rate to strengthen,” he said.
It was previously reported that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is optimistic that pressure on the rupiah exchange rate will soon subside and that it will strengthen gradually entering the second half of 2026. He stated that the rupiah is indeed still facing pressure in early June 2026, primarily influenced by global sentiment, risk-off conditions in financial markets, and pressure on the current account and domestic financial transactions.
However, Purbaya is confident that stronger synergy between fiscal, monetary, and financial sector authorities will be able to control these pressures. Additionally, he also believes that the latest policy regarding the management of Export Proceeds (DHE) and efforts to deepen the financial market will increase the supply of foreign currency. This, in turn, can help the monetary authorities stabilise the rupiah through intervention in the foreign exchange market.
“Thus, the rupiah will gradually strengthen again in the second half of 2026,” Purbaya said during a Working Meeting with Commission XI of the DPR in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 10 June 2026.
