Dasco Reveals Latest Developments Regarding Labour Bill
Jakarta, VIVA – The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has provided an update regarding the progress of the Labour Law Revision Bill. He noted that the House is currently awaiting feedback from the chairpersons of various labour unions, which will serve as a reference for the House in drafting the legislation.
Dasco shared these details regarding the legislative process of the Labour Bill while attending the 3rd Congress of the Confederation of the Indonesian Labour Union (KPBI) held in Jakarta on Sunday, 7 June 2026.
“First of all, it was suggested that the new Labour Law depends on me and the DPR, but it is actually the other way around,” Dasco remarked.
He continued, “In a meeting with the chairpersons of Trade Unions—including Bung Ilham, Bung Jumhur, and Bung Andi Gani—alongside Apindo, it was agreed that the Trade Unions and Apindo will form a formulation team for the new Labour Law to address the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).”
He explained that the formulations produced by the Trade Unions will subsequently be brought to the DPR to be synchronised with the academic manuscript currently under preparation. Following this, a joint team consisting of Trade Unions, Apindo, and the DPR will work together to deliberate and refine the regulations.
“So, if the law is to be completed quickly, as targeted by the President for completion by October at the latest, we must all work together to formulate it immediately,” he said.
However, Dasco noted that he has not yet received updates regarding the specific inputs from the Trade Unions and Apindo that will be submitted to the DPR for the Labour Bill.
Previously, Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad outlined the direction for forming the new Labour Law following the Constitutional Court’s ruling. The DPR and the government aim to finalise the policy by the end of 2026 at the latest. This was stated by Dasco while receiving aspirations from representatives of the Confederation of the Indonesian Labour Union Alliance (KASBI) and the Labour Movement Alliance with the People (GEBRAK) at the DPR RI Building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 1 May 2026. During that meeting, Dasco mentioned that the drafting process of the new law would rely heavily on the contributions of the trade unions.
