Jakarta (ANTARA) — Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that he had received the aspirations of workers at PT Karunia Alam Segar, the manufacturer of Mie Sedaap instant noodles, and secured a decision requiring the company to halt the recent wave of redundancies.

According to Dasco, his office had already coordinated with the East Java-based company. He conveyed that the firm had agreed and pledged not to carry out further layoffs.

“We have already conducted coordination, and I believe the workers can return to work with peace of mind,” he said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.

He stressed that the company’s redundancy policy should never have been enacted, particularly during the month of Ramadan and in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr.

According to Dasco, Mie Sedaap workers must be able to work and fast in tranquillity, and look forward to celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

“I believe the commitment from the Mie Sedaap company is sufficient. We have already conducted coordination,” he said.

Previously, information had circulated on social media that approximately 400 workers at the Mie Sedaap manufacturing company had been laid off several days before the start of Ramadan.

In a social media post, it was revealed that the hundreds of workers had been informed of their dismissal solely through WhatsApp messages, despite their employment contracts still being in effect.
