Dasco: Prabowo's heartfelt praise for PDIP comes from the heart
Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad explained the reason President Prabowo Subianto expressed thanks and praise to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). He said the remarks were written by the President from the deepest part of his heart. ‘What the President conveyed, as we know just now, and if we look at it, it came from the deepest part of his heart. The expression of thanks and appreciation to PDIP chairwoman Ibu Megawati and to PDIP is a sincere expression,’ Dasco told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 2026.
Prabowo also expressed thanks to PDIP for consistently offering criticisms of his government. Dasco said the criticisms from PDIP in parliament have been constructive.
‘And the constructive criticisms that the PDIP colleagues in the parliament have been making during President Prabowo’s administration,’ he added.
‘And the appreciation for what the President said to energise democracy,’ he continued.
Earlier reported, during his speech at the DPR RI plenary session in Jakarta on Wednesday, Prabowo Subianto thanked PDIP because it is currently the only party in parliament outside the government. According to ANTARA, Prabowo said PDIP has contributed to safeguarding democracy in Indonesia, because opposition ensures checks and balances, especially against executive bodies implementing the government.
‘Not all parties here are part of the government, and I respect that, I understand that democracy needs checks and balances, I understand that PDIP sacrifices to stay outside the government,’ he said. ‘Actually, I want to thank PDIP. You have contributed to our democracy,’ the President told more than 400 Members of the DPR RI and several state officials during the plenary session at Nusantara Building, MPR Complex, Jakarta.
