Dasco: Prabowo Sends Greetings to Workers Protesting at DPR
Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, conveyed greetings from President Prabowo Subianto to several labour organisations set to hold a May Day action outside the parliamentary building in Jakarta on Friday afternoon, 1 May 2026. Dasco delivered the message while receiving various labour organisations and trade unions united under the Aliansi Gerakan Buruh Bersama Rakyat at the Abdul Muis Building in the DPR complex, before the protest.
The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party was accompanied by Deputy Speaker of the DPR Saan Mustopa, Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Habiburokhman, Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR Putih Sari, and member of Commission IX of the DPR Obon Tabroni. Dasco and his entourage entered the room to meet the labour alliance around 11:00.
Before opening the audience, Dasco was seen receiving a phone call. Not long after, he left the room to continue the conversation with his interlocutor via his mobile device.
Dasco then re-entered the room and apologised for the delay in the meeting. “Earlier, I received a call from the President. Although earlier, friends (from Aliansi Gebrak) were not together with the president to celebrate Labour Day, he sends greetings from Mr President to wish a happy Labour Day,” said Dasco.
Dasco then invited representatives of the labour alliance to express their aspirations. In the meeting, Aliansi Gebrak conveyed several points of demands, such as the establishment of a new Employment Law, improvements to the labour wage system, guarantees of employment certainty, and demands to stop mass layoffs.
General Chairman of the Congress of Indonesian Labour Union Alliances (Kasbi), Sunarno, said the alliance would still hold the May Day action despite having directly conveyed their aspirations to the DPR leadership. He stated that Aliansi Gebrak was also invited to join the May Day Fiesta celebration at the National Monument attended by President Prabowo Subianto.
However, he said, their group chose to continue with the protest rally outside the DPR Building. “It doesn’t mean we hate the government, but with the current labour conditions, the situation is still bad,” Sunarno said on Friday, 1 May 2026.
