Dasco on Chatib Basri's Palace Visit: National Economic Council Provides Economic Input
House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has responded to the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto, National Economic Council (DEN) Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and DEN member Chatib Basri at the Presidential Palace today. Dasco stated he had sought confirmation from the Palace regarding the meeting. Dasco said the meeting was specifically intended to provide input regarding current economic developments. He noted that Chatib Basri attended in his capacity as a member of the National Economic Council, while Luhut attended as DEN Chairman. “Yes, this afternoon’s meeting between the President, Mr Luhut, and Mr Chatib Basri — I have requested confirmation and have already received it from the government, from the Palace. That the meeting with Mr Luhut was in his capacity as Chairman of the National Economic Council and Mr Chatib Basri as a member of the National Economic Council,” Dasco said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/6/2026). According to him, during the meeting, the National Economic Council provided a number of recommendations to Prabowo, particularly concerning steps that can be taken to boost national economic growth. “So, today the National Economic Council provided inputs to the President regarding matters related to economic growth strategies,” he said. “Thus, the President can then take steps deemed necessary, in addition to analysing inputs from the existing economic team, and these positive inputs, in my opinion, are valuable recommendations for the President for our economic growth,” he continued. Dasco further emphasised that there were no other discussions during the meeting. He conveyed this whilst answering a question regarding Chatib Basri’s visit amidst the rumours of a replacement for Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. “In my opinion, today’s meeting was purely to provide input on how to increase economic growth,” he said. “I have just confirmed, there were no other discussions,” he continued. He assessed that the recent circulating rumours concerning the replacement of the Minister of Finance still cannot be verified for their truthfulness. However, he confirmed there was no discussion regarding a finance minister reshuffle. “Indeed, over the last day or two, there have been rumours whose sources cannot yet be verified. But I have just confirmed that today’s meeting was purely to receive input from the National Economic Council, chaired by Mr Luhut with Mr Chatib Basri as its member,” he concluded. Previously, Chatib Basri visited the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Chatib acknowledged his visit was to meet President Prabowo Subianto. Detikcom observed on Tuesday (9/6/2026) that Chatib arrived at the Palace through the pillar gate near the State Palace at 15.35 WIB. Chatib’s arrival coincided with that of National Economic Council Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. “Yes,” Chatib said when asked whether he would be meeting the President.
