REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The government is certain it has no plans to adjust fuel prices in the near future. This assurance comes amid rumours of price increases that briefly caused queues at several petrol stations.

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sufmi Dasco, stated that the information had been confirmed by the government following communications with various parties. He noted that fuel prices, both subsidised and non-subsidised, will remain as they are currently.

“The House of Representatives appreciates the government, which, after communicating with various parties and listening to input from various sides, including the House, has announced through the State Secretary representing the government that there are no plans to adjust prices for subsidised or non-subsidised fuel on 1 April as per the circulating rumours,” Dasco said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan on Tuesday (31/3/2025).

He explained that the rumours of fuel price increases had caused public panic. This was evident from the queues of vehicles at several petrol stations in recent days.

“Prices remain the same, so the public does not need to panic, does not need to queue, and especially not to hoard fuel,” Dasco said.

According to Dasco, the government is also committed to ensuring the availability of fuel supply remains secure. This was conveyed after communication with President Prabowo Subianto regarding the national energy situation.

“The result of communication with the government side is a commitment from President Prabowo to continue monitoring and maintaining the public’s need for fuel. And once again, we convey our aspirations to the government on this matter,” he said.

Regarding the possibility of future price increases, Dasco stated there is no certainty yet. He emphasised that the government is still focused on maintaining price and supply stability for fuel.

He also assured that there are no plans to restrict purchases of certain types of fuel. According to him, national fuel stocks are still sufficient.

“I asked earlier, it seems not (no restrictions). Because according to the government, our stocks are sufficient,” he said.
