Dasco leads decision-making process for Labour Protection Bill
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, led the first-stage decision-making meeting regarding the Draft Law on Labour Protection, held by Commission IX of the DPR RI.
The decision-making process took place following the completion of the bill’s drafting and discussion phases. Once decided, the bill will be brought to the plenary session of the DPR RI to be ratified into law.
“DPR RI Regulation Number 1 of 2025 states that every DPR meeting is open, unless declared closed,” Dasco said at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Monday.
He explained that the meeting’s agenda included the working committee’s report, the reading of the Draft Law on Labour Protection, final mini-opinions representing the positions of political factions and the government, the signing of the draft law, and the decision to proceed to second-stage discussions.
In addition to the leadership and members of Commission IX, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Manpower, Yassierli; the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifatul Choiri Fauzi; the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Maman Abdurahman; and several relevant deputy ministers.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chair of Commission IX, Putih Sari, stated that the drafting of the Labour Protection Bill is a vital part of the effort to build a national labour system aimed at providing stronger protection to workers.
Furthermore, she noted that the bill is designed to provide legal certainty for both employees and employers, encourage the creation and expansion of job opportunities, increase worker competence and productivity, realise a fair and decent wage system, and strengthen harmonious and equitable industrial relations.
According to her, the bill is expected to anticipate changes in the world of work and digital transformation, while strengthening labour law supervision and enforcement. It also aims to create a balance between worker protection, business sustainability, and national economic growth and competitiveness.
“The Draft Law on Labour Protection consists of 23 chapters and 313 articles,” said Putih.
