Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has revealed that Parliament is fully prepared to immediately discuss the revision of the Election Law. This readiness stems from all political parties expressing their intention to amend and update the existing legislative product.

“Commission II, representing all existing parties, is ready to discuss these changes, covering both the academic manuscripts and the subsequent article-by-article draft revisions,” Dasco told reporters at the DPR Building on Wednesday. “Therefore, I believe the House of Representatives’ readiness regarding the Election Law revision should not be doubted.”

Dasco noted that the House, through Commission II, will soon provide space for the public to offer input regarding the revision. He emphasised that this is part of an effort to encourage public participation in shaping electoral regulatory changes.

In parallel, lawmakers are committed to discussing and drafting the Election Law revision with great care and precision. This approach is intended to ensure that the resulting legislative product, which will serve as the legal basis for elections, is not subsequently challenged and overturned by the Constitutional Court. “I have repeatedly stated that we will be more cautious so that, this time, it is not challenged and granted by the MK (Constitutional Court),” Dasco explained.

The revision of the Election Law will be presented as a proposal and initiative from the House of Representatives.

Separately, Mardani Ali Sera, a member of Commission II from the PKS Faction, revealed that the discussions for the Election Law revision are targeted to commence between July and August 2026. This decision is expected to be a crucial point adopted in the upcoming draft of the General Election Law.
