Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has called on all sides to strengthen national unity, saying that the cohesion of civil society is essential for good governance. He noted that civil society is becoming unhealthy, with many people using social media as a platform to attack one another.

‘Because today our civil society is not cohesive; civil society members are insulting one another and questioning government policies in an unhealthy way, on social media I see it has become unhealthy,’ Dasco said in a statement, quoted on Friday, 6 March 2026.

He therefore urged civil society to be cohesive and bolster national unity.

‘We need national unity and contributions that are not mere talk,’ he said.

Dasco said he does not mind civil society voicing criticisms or input. However, he hopes that such criticisms are grounded in nationalism and good intentions.

‘If we ask, Prabowo would only need one national unity, both in criticising, in offering ideas, and in tangible contributions,’ he added.

Therefore, Dasco asked all parties to give the Prabowo administration time to work as well as possible. Public trust in the current administration is believed to bring welfare to the nation.

‘I would actually ask you all: how long will civil society give national unity to Prabowo so that he has time to realise his promises for the welfare of the people,’ Dasco asserted.
