The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has ensured that the Draft Law on Asset Forfeiture regulates the seizure of assets resulting from corrupt criminal acts.

“Essentially, if it involves the criminal acts of corruptors, then those assets are to be confiscated,” Dasco stated at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Dasco noted that the previous draft of the Asset Forfeiture Bill had already included provisions regarding corruption-related crimes. However, according to him, several provisions within the draft still require adjustment to align with the newly passed Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

“The draft was released before the new KUHP and KUHAP were enacted, so we will adjust it accordingly,” he said.

Dasco expressed confidence that the discussion of the Bill could be completed by 15 December 2026. He added that refinements are ongoing, particularly through the incorporation of input from experts and other stakeholders.

Previously, the Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, stated that there are 13 types of criminal offences proposed to be included in the Asset Forfeiture Bill, ranging from corruption to human trafficking.

He emphasised that law enforcement regarding asset forfeiture must not be carried out arbitrarily against the public. Furthermore, he asserted that the Asset Forfeiture Law must not become a tool of power to extort the public, criminalise political opponents, or silence critical voices.
