Dasco: Danantara buys shares in ride-hailing apps to reduce commission cuts to 8 percent

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the Investment Management Agency for the Future Power of the Archipelago (BPI Danantara) has already purchased shares in several ride-hailing applications (ojol), one of the aims being to reduce commission cuts to ojol drivers from 10-20 percent to eight percent.

With the government acquiring partial shares in these ride-hailing applications, according to him, the systems and policies of the applications will be adjusted gradually and steadily. However, the most important aspect, he said, is that the government will strive to lower the commission cut figure.

“The first and foremost is to reduce the fees taken by the applications. Previously 20 or 10 percent, so the applications will only take eight percent from the collected amount,” said Dasco when receiving an audience from a labour union alliance in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

“These organisations of ojol friends will still be invited to talk, invited to deliberate,” he said.

According to him, President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed that if there are companies experiencing difficulties, they will be assisted or even taken over by the government. This is done so that workers can continue to work and have a place of employment.

“I say here, I do not agree with 10 percent, it must be below 10 percent,” said President Prabowo in his speech at the commemoration of International Labour Day at the National Monument, Jakarta, on Friday.

The President emphasised that this policy is taken to defend the rights of online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) who work hard every day and risk their lives on the roads. According to him, the profit-sharing scheme that has been in place so far still does not provide justice for the drivers.
