Dasco Confirms Sahroni Has Returned as Active Legislator
House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has confirmed that Ahmad Sahroni has returned to active duty as a legislator after serving a six-month suspension. Dasco made the statement after chairing a plenary meeting that appointed Sahroni as Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House on Thursday.
"He's already active, of course," Dasco said at the House of Representatives complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
During the plenary meeting, Dasco said Sahroni's appointment was based on a letter from the NasDem Party faction leadership, numbered FNasdem107/DPR RI/ii/2026, dated 12 February 2026, regarding the replacement of the Deputy Chairman of Commission III. Sahroni replaces Rusdi Masse Mappasessu, who had resigned from both the House and the NasDem Party.
During the wave of demonstrations in August 2025, Sahroni was deactivated by the NasDem Party's internal tribunal over remarks deemed offensive and hurtful to the public. At that time, Sahroni's position as Deputy Chairman of Commission III was transferred to Rusdi.
Sahroni was given an ethics sanction by the House Ethics Council for six months, following a decision by NasDem's Central Executive Board in August. The Ethics Council's ruling was read out on 5 November 2025.
NasDem Party Deputy Chairman Saan Mustopa said the party had followed the sanction mechanism established by the House Ethics Council. He expressed confidence that the Ethics Council had granted clearance for Sahroni to return to work at the parliament building.
According to Saan, if Sahroni's punishment had not been completed, it would have been impossible for the House leadership to approve his installation as Deputy Chairman of Commission III. "So if the House leadership has already made the appointment, it means the Ethics Council has no objections," Saan said at the House on Thursday.
