The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has ensured that wealth related to acts of corruption will be a primary target under the Asset Forfeiture Bill. However, he emphasised that the draft regulation is still in the refinement stage.

Dasco stated that assets subject to seizure in corruption cases are those belonging to perpetrators that are directly linked to the criminal act. “Essentially, if it involves the criminal acts of corruptors, those are the assets to be confiscated,” Dasng said at the DPR RI Building on Tuesday (1/9).

According to Dasco, the discussion regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill still requires various inputs from the public and experts. Such feedback is necessary to perfect the substance of the draft before it proceeds to further stages of deliberation.

“When reviewed, the content will include criminal acts by corruptors. In the previous draft, several parts required adjustment because they were drafted before the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) were enacted,” said Dasco.

Dasco explained that these adjustments are necessary because several provisions in the previous draft were formulated prior to the ratification of the new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. “Therefore, we are currently seeking extensive public participation to refine the existing draft,” he added.

He also emphasised that the scope of assets eligible for seizure may continue to evolve during the deliberation process. This will be adjusted according to legal dynamics and evolving needs. “We will see; there are many developments and dynamics on the ground,” said Dasco.
