Dasco Confident Rupiah Will Strengthen, Urges Public Not to Hoard Dollars
House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad assessed that the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate and the rise in the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) reflect growing market confidence in the government. According to him, various measures taken by the government are beginning to show positive results for the national economic condition.
‘Yes, I think confidence in the government is also getting stronger, so that it affects the market and also the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate. I think the government’s work will continue,’ Dasco said at the Parliament Complex on Thursday.
Dasco said the government will continue working to maintain economic stability and strengthen market fundamentals. He said he received information that the government is preparing a number of special strategies believed to further strengthen the rupiah exchange rate in the near future.
‘I also received information from the government that this week and going forward there are special strategies that will be carried out by the government, which from the information I received will make the rupiah exchange rate strengthen further,’ he said.
Therefore, Dasco urged members of the public who are holding dollars in the hope of profiting from a rise in the exchange rate to reconsider that course of action.
‘Yes, perhaps for those of you who are currently holding dollars because you hope to make a profit, you should release the dollars. Because if the rupiah strengthens next week, it will certainly be detrimental if you continue to hold dollars. That is my advice,’ he said.
