Dasco: Chatib's Summons to Palace Not About Reshuffle
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said he has received information from the Presidential Palace regarding the summons of National Economic Council (DEN) member Muhammad Chatib Basri by President Prabowo Subianto this afternoon. He stated that the presence of Chatib Basri and DEN Chairman Luhut Binsan Panjaitan at the Presidential Palace was to provide input and strategies to boost economic growth. “I have received government confirmation that the earlier meeting, Mr Luhut in his capacity as DEN Chairman and Mr Chatib Basri as a member,” Dasco said at the MPR/DPR/DPD Complex on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. He acknowledged that discourse in recent days has mentioned Chatib Basri’s name as a potential candidate to replace Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as Finance Minister. However, he said this discourse cannot yet be verified. “(Was a reshuffle discussed?) The confirmation I have says there was no discussion heading in that direction,” Dasco stated. He explained that the DEN’s presence at the Presidential Palace is an important part of the government’s efforts to strengthen economic growth under current circumstances. “Input and strategies are needed so that the President can take steps deemed necessary,” said the Daily Chairman of the Gerindra Party. Based on Tempo’s observations at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Luhut and Chatib arrived at around 3:30 p.m. WIB. Regarding the day’s agenda, Chatib confirmed he would meet directly with the Head of State. However, he declined to reveal what would be discussed. “Ask Mr Luhut,” he said at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday afternoon. According to Chatib, other DEN members such as Septian Hario Seto were also present. When asked about the issue of him entering the cabinet under Prabowo’s administration, Chatib replied, “I don’t know.” On Monday, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said there were no plans to reshuffle the Red and White Cabinet. He dismissed the rumour that Chatib Basri would replace Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. “There is no plan to replace the Finance Minister. We have repeatedly said, there is no reshuffle plan,” he stated at the MPR/DPR/DPD Complex. Speculation about changing the State Treasurer has recently become a topic of public discussion alongside the weakening rupiah exchange rate. Prasetyo requested the public not to speculate or link the reshuffle issue with specific figures, adding that President Prabowo would certainly inform the public if a cabinet shake-up were to occur.
