Dasco Calls for Reform of PPPK Appointments to Prevent Regional Backlogs

House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the issue of temporary and part-time government workers (PPPK) in the regions was one of the topics discussed at a House Commission II meeting today. Dasco assessed that the governance of PPPK appointments needs to be improved to prevent a build-up.

This was conveyed by Dasco after attending a meeting between Commission II, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI) at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday. Dasco said the House continues to hold meetings during the recess period to discuss urgent matters.

"Indeed, the House holds meetings during the recess period as needed, and today, Commission II held a meeting with APKASI and the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss the fiscal condition, as well as several other matters including regional inflation, regional development, revenue-sharing funds, remuneration, and also proposals to the government through House Commission II," said Dasco.

During the meeting, Dasco said, the issue of PPPK, which has been a complaint from several regional governments, was also discussed. This included matters related to salary financing.

"Yes, including the issue of PPPK, which we have actually discussed with the Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform and the Minister of Home Affairs to further regulate its governance going forward," he said.

Dasco stated that the hiring of employees is often carried out after regional elections. This condition, according to him, needs to be evaluated so as not to create new problems in the regions.

"Because usually these appointments are made after the regional elections are finished," he said.

"The authorities subsequently granted to regional heads may also need to be improved in terms of governance, so that there is no build-up of temporary staff or part-time PPPK in the regions," he added.
