JAKARTA — DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has expressed support for the Constitutional Court’s ruling on penalties for political parties failing to meet the required 30% female representation quota in legislative elections.

‘We support the requirement,’ Dasco said during a meeting at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (26 May 2026).

Dasco stated that many women of integrity are capable of entering politics, making the 30% female representation quota for legislative elections achievable for political parties.

He emphasised that the Constitutional Court’s ruling is final and binding, reflecting support for women’s inclusion. Dasco added that the ruling strengthens the existing 30% female representation requirement in recent elections.

Dasco confirmed the DPR will ensure the 30% female representation rule is included in the draft election bill.

Previously, the Constitutional Court stipulated penalties for political parties not meeting the 30% female candidate quota when submitting candidates for the DPR, provincial DPRDs, and regency/city DPRDs in general elections.

In its ruling No. 128/PUU-XXIV/2026, partially granted, the Court specified that the General Election Commission (KPU) at all levels may disqualify political parties failing to meet the minimum 30% female candidate requirement.

‘Given that penalties for political parties participating in the election have been effectively enforced, to ensure the spirit of Article 28H paragraph 2 of the 1945 Constitution is fully realised in the composition of DPR/DPRD candidate lists, political parties failing to meet the minimum 30% female representation quota must face strict penalties,’ said Constitutional Court Justice Adies Kadir, reading the Court’s reasoning on Monday (25 May 2026).
