Dasco assures no Eid 2026 open house will be held
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has assured that he will not hold the tradition of open house or griya event during the moment of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE on Saturday (21/3). In his statement in Jakarta on Friday, Dasco conveyed that this decision serves as an example of leadership in the legislature in implementing the central government’s directive on simplicity. As such, he will not hold an open house for the public at his residence. The Circular Letter (SE) issued by the Minister for State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi has requested all ministers and state officials not to be overly extravagant when holding Eid open houses. The Mensesneg’s SE follows the directive from President Prabowo Subianto, who reminded all his subordinates to set a good example for the Indonesian people, especially since many residents in Sumatra are still in a disaster situation. In addition to legislative leaders, officials from the Red and White Cabinet ranks have taken similar steps. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has openly stated that he is absent from holding Eid al-Fitr celebrations, while joking that the decision to cancel the open house is an effort at saving. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto asked ministers, agency heads, and the Red and White Cabinet ranks not to hold open houses in a lavish manner during Eid al-Fitr following the national disaster and ongoing global crisis. When leading the Full Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13/3), President Prabowo asked his aides to provide an example of simplicity to society by not being excessive when holding open houses. “I think we must set an example, open house or whatever, don’t be too lavish. We’re in a disaster and in this atmosphere, we give an example to the people, but we also shouldn’t totally close all our events, because if not, our economy won’t run later,” said Prabowo.
