Darul Ulum school becomes favorite

SURABAYA, East Java: The Darul Ulum Moslem senior high boarding school in Jombang has become a favorite institution with applicants flocking from many areas outside East Java.

The school, jointly organized by the Darul Ulum Moslem boarding school and the government's Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), will only take 80 students this year under a very tight selection process.

The school's patron Muh. As'd Umar told Antara on Wednesday that among the school applicants was a student from Bali with the highest final evaluation test scores (NEM) of 49.

As of Wednesday, there were 60 students applying to enroll for the school. They come from Bali, Central and West Java and also Jakarta, he said.

Umar said that in addition to religious teachings, students of the school are given ample time to study subjects on science and technology. (par)
