Daop 8 Surabaya Ensures Readiness of Lebaran 2026 Transport Services
A spokesperson for KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, explained that the maintenance is part of infrastructure readiness to face the surge in passengers during Lebaran 2026.
‘What was carried out earlier at Surabaya Gubeng Station was rail-geometry realignment, in other words, a repair of rail geometry to ensure the track condition is safe and passable by trains,’ he said.
According to him, infrastructure maintenance will be maximised until approaching the Lebaran period, which is scheduled to begin on 13 March 2026.
Furthermore, he added that the rail-geometry repairs are part of routine maintenance programmed periodically by KAI, in addition to preventive and corrective maintenance.
Mahendro said before entering Lebaran, Daop 8 KAI teams carry out cross-track inspections to identify potential disruptions on the lines.
From the inspections, he said, several points were found requiring follow-up, so a priority scale for repairs was established by the infrastructure team.
‘From the cross-track inspections there are several findings that must be addressed immediately and that becomes a priority for our infrastructure team to carry out repairs,’ he explained.
This step aligns with KAI’s commitment to the safety of train travel, especially during the Lebaran period, which is associated with increased travel frequency and passenger volume.
Mahendro emphasised that they want to ensure all lines in Daop 8 Surabaya are in prime condition, so railway operations can run safely, on time, and reliably during Lebaran this year.
He added that the preparations target not only infrastructure, but also facilities and improvements to passenger services to ensure journeys during the mudik season are comfortable.
‘We will continue to maximise infrastructure maintenance, as well as facilities and passenger services until approaching the post-ops period,’ he concluded.
