Daop 6 Yogyakarta records 56,898 passengers at peak of extended weekend holiday return rush
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 6 Yogyakarta recorded 56,898 passengers during the peak of the extended weekend holiday return rush, coinciding with Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah and Pancasila Day on June 1.
Feni Novida Saragih, Head of Corporate Communications for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated on Sunday that the figure represents the cumulative total of passengers departing and arriving at all stations in the Daop 6 area up to 11:00 WIB.
“30,710 passengers departed from Daop 6 stations, while 26,188 arrived. This number is expected to remain dynamic as ticket sales for today’s journeys continue until evening,” Feni said.
She noted that passenger mobility during this return period showed a significant increase compared to a typical Monday, with departure figures rising by up to 100 percent.
Operational data shows Yogyakarta Station as the top departure point with 17,180 passengers, followed by Lempuyangan Station (5,490), Solo Balapan Station (4,101), Klaten Station (1,486), Purwosari Station (913), and Wates Station (608).
To accommodate the surge in demand, Feni said KAI Daop 6 has deployed seven additional train services serving various routes, including Gambir, Bandung, and Surabaya Gubeng.
“The additional train services were deployed to ensure seat availability and provide travel alternatives for the public,” she said.
“We urge the public to plan departure times carefully and ensure tickets are booked via the Access by KAI app, KAI’s official website, or other authorised sellers for a comfortable journey,” she added.
