Daop 6 Yogyakarta records 42,692 passenger surge on rail services
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 6 Yogyakarta recorded 42,692 passengers travelling to and from stations in the Daop 6 area during the long weekend holiday for Idul Adha 1447 H and Pancasila Day on Saturday (30/5).
Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Feni Novida Saragih said the figure comprised 19,777 departing passengers and 22,915 arriving passengers.
“Entering the weekend coinciding with Pancasila Day public holiday, public enthusiasm for rail transport continues to rise. Passenger mobility increased by 17% compared to a regular Saturday,” Feni said.
She added that current passenger trends are dominated by arrivals in Daop 6 Yogyakarta, while the return journey or departures are predicted to significantly surge from Sunday (31/5) until peaking on Monday (1/6).
Preliminary data shows 24,308 passengers are scheduled to depart from Daop 6 on Monday, with numbers expected to rise as ticket bookings continue.
To anticipate the surge, KAI Daop 6 has prepared strategic measures by operating seven additional train services, from economy to executive class.
“The addition of these extra train services aims to provide alternative options for the public in planning their long weekend travel,” Feni added.
The seven additional trains include Sancaka Fakultatif service between Yogyakarta and Surabaya Gubeng, Batavia service between Solo Balapan and Gambir, two additional services between Yogyakarta and Gambir, two additional services between Solo Balapan and Bandung, and one between Lempuyangan and Pasarsenen.
KAI Daop 6 urges all potential passengers to check departure schedules and plan travel time to stations to avoid missing trains, considering potential road traffic congestion during the holiday.
The public is also advised to use official ticketing services via the Access by KAI app, KAI website, and official partners to ensure a comfortable journey.
