Daop 6 Reports 218,000 Passengers Utilised School Holiday Fare Subsidy
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta recorded that 218,208 customers utilised the 30 percent fare subsidy programme provided by the government during the school holiday period from 20 June to 5 July 2026. KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih stated in Yogyakarta on Thursday that the high level of public enthusiasm demonstrates the effectiveness of the transport stimulus programme in increasing public interest in using mass transportation modes. “This 30 percent fare discount programme provides an opportunity for the public to travel more affordably, safely, and comfortably during the school holidays. The train remains the public’s primary choice because it offers time efficiency and good economic value,” Feni said. Based on Daop 6 operational data, the peak passenger volume utilising the discounted fare occurred on Sunday (5/7), reaching a total of 17,664 customers. This figure was driven by the high mobility of people holidaying with their families at the end of the school break. In addition, KAI Daop 6 also recorded high passenger volumes on several other dates, namely 28 June with 16,268 customers, 4 July with 15,671 customers, 3 July with 15,074 customers, 2 July with 14,063 customers, and 21 June with 14,024 customers. Feni added that the increased use of trains aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable development through the application of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. “By choosing the train, the public contributes to reducing carbon emissions. KAI also continues to provide supporting facilities for a sustainable lifestyle, such as water stations for refilling drinking water to reduce plastic waste, as well as service digitalisation through the Access by KAI application,” she explained. The company confirmed that behind the high passenger volume, all aspects of safety, security, punctuality, and excellent service at stations and during journeys remain the top priority. “KAI Daop 6 expresses its appreciation to the entire community for the trust given and is committed to continuously improving the quality of modern, inclusive, and environmentally friendly public transport services,” she said.
